Take a look at our newest mural location in the New Robert F. Kennedy Learning Center.
Judy Baca arrived at this concept through consideration of the site
and her historic interest in the notion that land is a “site of public memory”.
The memory that historically most resonates with the Latino community of which
the majority of students at the new Central Los Angeles Learning Center will
be, is that of Robert F. Kennedy as the first presidential candidate in history
whose values and vision most closely aligned with that of the Latino community.
The question she asked as she embarked on the research was: “What does the life
work of RFK represent to the future students at this site? Furthermore, she wanted to more deeply
consider the mutually transformative friendship that was forged between these
two men, RFK, the son of a multimillionaire, and Cesar Chavez, the son of a
campesino.
The monument which will be seen and interacted with, daily
by students, teachers and the community and will inspire viewers to enact the
values and spirit of Robert F. Kennedy.
Their actions will be the true monument to Robert F. Kennedy.
